Asheville area arts council CARES ACT GRANT
In December 2020 Womansong was thrilled to receive a $5,290 COVID relief grant from the Asheville Area Arts Council. This came from federal CARES Act funds that North Carolina targeted to local arts councils and arts-related businesses. Buncombe County’s share was disbursed by the Asheville Area Arts Council, which granted $251,000 to 36 local arts organizations.
In a normal year, 35% of Womansong’s income is from ticket sales, so it’s no surprise that even with the generosity of our Celebrate 33 contributors and Womansong Reimagined sponsors, we ended the year with a sizeable budget deficit.
The Arts Council grant helped reduce that deficit and allows us face to the unknowns of 2021 with more confidence. We are grateful to the Asheville Area Arts Council and to our state representatives who chose to allocate part of North Carolina’s CARES Act money to support arts organizations.
