Womansong always welcomes visitors at our rehearsals. In normal times, we ask prospective members to visit twice and then sign up for an audition. This year while we’re rehearsing on Zoom and not able to hold auditions, we’ve created a new option for women who are interested in joining. We’re calling it “Provisional Membership.” Here’s how it works:
First, visit two Zoom rehearsals. Please follow our Zoom protocol during rehearsals: mute yourself whenever we’re singing and when others are speaking, except when prompted to unmute.
After two visits, you may sign up as a Provisional Member for the spring semester (January through May) or as long as we’re meeting on Zoom. When we’re able to hold in-person auditions – hopefully by May or June, but who knows? – you’ll have a simple audition. If your voice is a good fit for Womansong, you’ll be invited to become a performing member.*
As a provisional member, you’ll be able to participate in all our events this spring, including rehearsals, workshops, social gatherings, and sing-alongs. You’ll have access to our music scores and practice recordings, and you’ll be listed in our members’ directory. You’ll receive Womansong emails and bulletin board posts where members share personal and community happenings.
You’ll choose one of our sections -- alto, middle, soprano -- based on your comfortable singing range. Normally our director assigns new members to a section. Since that’s not possible currently, you can try out different secions at rehearsals if you’re not sure which best fits your voice.
You’ll receive a membership packet with more information about how we operate. Provisional members are asked to pay nominal dues of $25 for the semester. Questions? Contact Sarah Rubin, assistant director at 828-545-0117 or srubin2@charter.net
*If you’re not accepted as a full performing member after your audition or choose not to join, you may continue your relationship with Womansong as a “non-performing member,” which allows you to participate in all Womansong activities except singing in concerts. Non-performing members can visit rehearsals, participate in social events and community sing-alongs, serve on committees, volunteer at concerts, etc.
