IN 1988, Womansong, under the leadership of founding director Linda Metzner, created the New Start Fund to provide a hand up for a brighter and safe future to women in Western North Carolina. Through grants and scholarships, we support women who are starting on a new path to greater self-sufficiency.
The New Start Fund is administered by a volunteer group of Womansong members. This committee raises funds, and working with social service agencies and community colleges, distributes the funds.
Womansong Grants are awarded to women who are clients of licensed social service agencies. Please read the GUIDELINES before contacting us. The social worker/case manager must complete an application on behalf of the client using the Grant Application Form .
Womansong Scholarships are administered by three area community colleges. For information regarding eligibility for an educational scholarship, please contact the appropriate community college and inquire about the Womansong Scholarship.

Funding for New Start comes from the Womansong Operating Fund, New Start fundraisers (like raffles at concerts), grants, and donations from generous people like you! We encourage our donors to make contributions in memory or in honor of a loved one or friend. 100% of Donations designated for the New Start Fund go directly to grants, scholarships, and GED testing for women! Everything is done by Womansong volunteers, and any minimal operating expenses are covered by the Womansong Operating Fund.
Since 1987 Womansong has been bringing beauty and song to this region. Through the Womansong New Start Fund we have also helped many women make new beginnings. We know that when we help one woman, we are helping an entire family, so the efforts of New Start have reached hundreds of people who continue to benefit.

- 100% of the donations designated for the New Start Fund go directly to grants, scholarships and GED testing for women in need. The Womansong Operating Fund pays for any overhead or administrative costs.
- New Start Fund contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable under the 501(c)3 tax designation.
