On Monday February 22 from 7-9 PM Womansong is hosting a workshop on African-American spirituals and gospel music led by Dr. Kathy Bullock, Professor Emeritus of music at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. The workshop will be held on Zoom, and women throughout Western North Carolina are invited to attend.
Kathy Bullock is a dynamic, inspiring teacher and choral director. With a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Theory from Washington University and a B.A. in Music from Brandeis University, she has taught music and general studies courses, directed the Berea College gospel choirs, and led international courses in West Africa and the Caribbean. Some Womansong members have sung with Kathy at Swannanoa Gathering and other summer programs, and we’re thrilled that our singing sisters and friends will have an opportunity to work with her. Kathy will lead a second workshop for Womansong and friends on March 22.
The February 22 workshop will include lots of singing as well as presentations on history and context of African American spirituals and gospel music. Womansong would appreciate a donation of $10-$20 to defray the cost of the workshop. We hope you can join us!
